OH , MY HERO !!
The other day I posted a song performed by
Tina Turner-We dont need another hero-
The song's lyrical content is written from
the perspective of Those being oppressed and not wanting to get up Their hopes
in yet another "hero" who may or may not save Them. .
I remembered a text I had already
addressed the issue and I decided to reedit it . The focus of the subject
is not in leisure but in behavioral changes brought about by the
creations of our minds. At the end of the text I let Tina sing again !
Somewhere in time I broached the topic of
heroes and superheroes.
Bolstered by the knowledge of cartoonists as Airton Marcelino I could do a
little tour through this universe of pleasure , showing its importance within
our reality and its evolution according to the changes in customs of our
society as a whole.
Now, I try to get back to the topic, perhaps bothered by some aspects
that ultimately extrapolated this universe, causing the heroes and superheroes
to acquire their own lives within our own lives, transforming the idyll that
characterizes the creation of such characters in a compensation tool of our
weaknesses and / or personalities complement, or even substitute them in
conflict situations.
Man has always lived with the myth -
(fruit of his own imagination) - to explain realities and processes
misunderstood by reason .Though there are many opinions, I believe that the
origin of myth and heroes lies in attempts to explain Creation, in Cosmogonies
and panspermias.Yet in composing this
collection, many myths and heroes appeared to complete gaps arisen from loss of
oral tradition.
Coming out of antiquity, what we
have observed is the rise of super heroes so we can deal with our weaknesses
and resignedly disabilities. We created these characters to fight against
injustice, against militarism, against oppression, against cunning spirits.
I wonder in a moment: Isnt it all our own
responsibilities?
Why we refuse to respond to such
situations and ,profess inability, expressing a kind of ectoplasm, an 'exo
being " that coated everything that we assume to be correct, productive,
strong and fair resulting in a super
hero?
The evolution of media and interactivity made these characters stop
being just a leisure literature, protagonists or action movies of the
"trash" genre to acquire a life of their own parallel universe, a
universe that shows itself extremely dangerous for offering communication ports
always opened to the real world by simply using the imagination to cross them.
It's
weird how we do not settle for our
reality.
The
so-called heroes of our world, those who simply give examples of correction and
humanity, such as a simple taxi driver who returns a large sum of money
forgotten in his car, a firefighter who saves a life in a serious accident, relegated
to oblivion, or allowed to the famous
fifteen minutes of fame harnessed and exploited by a thirsty media billing.
No,
they are not and they were not heroes
.
They practiced common actions. They did not wear fantasies. They did not wear
masks nor had biceps that prevented them from combing their hair.
And more: They didn’t punch
anyone, nor destroyed cities, or flew chasing the evil clinging to the walls of buildings.
Although
we know that we will never be like the characters we create, we create them .
Many
people leading the fiction to the edge
of reality , supported by interactivity arisen in videogames ,assume the fantasy of power, perfection and justice
.In a moment they fight against the world that seems to deny them a place of evidence ,and
commit the atrocities and "acts of heroism" according to the film
that goes on in their head.
Justice done, the classic
"The End" or "Next Stage" appears before their eyes .But,
whatever "The End" or "Next Stage" mean .They mean the same
thing:the Flash of Reality!
And
the flash of reality tells them that they are not who they claimed to be nor
they did what their eyes see. And so
the hero played by a bad actor gives up of the farce and as a last strategy don’t allow being caught or
defeated and commits suicide.
A
coward hero? No! That is two weights and two measures.
The
hero lives two parallel lives that do not obey the same laws and parameters of
existence .So others will arise.
Starting from the twentieth
century with its revolutions, wars and confrontation of political systems
the fertility of super heroes met his
best days of fertilization; Superman
fighting against Nazism, Rambo gone
out of the shame of Vietnam rescued American pride, undertaking alone
very successfully missions aimed at an army, anyway Rambo was the "one man
army" !
What
makes this picture most hideous, in my view ,is the "law of compensation”.
Super heroes need fighting super villains and thus create new forms of evil
that are nothing more than the amplification of the evil we know through
extended powers and catastrophic
weapons that can only be fought with more destruction. The situation is
perpetuated, since the superheroes do not defeat the super villains and vice
versa.
Whatever
may be the opinion on this phenomenon, ie, whether or not we rely on
superheroes that we take for life, their creators update the universe where
their creatures operate adapting them to new values.
Unless I am mistaken,
Marvel launches a new generation of gay super heroes, ,which sparked many protests as well as adhesions
. Stories and film scripts are thought sufficiently in advance in order to
arise a new reality that will house new super heroes , or the same super heroes in other adventures that
will be made available in interactive games that will provide a "sumptuous
dinner" to enthusiasts.
Some
attempts to stop this progress came in the character of "the anti hero”.
Not the opportunistic anti hero but one embodied by a silly guy, clumsy, but
conscious of the world aberrations, eventually finding a solution.
But
the entertainment industry, or even sociology, rather than assign their proper
degree of importance labeled them as
"Cult", that pseudo intellectual word that most of the times means
nothing .We find exemples in Charles Chaplin, or in the comic Maxwell Smart,
Agent 86.
Although
in the field of Politically Incorrect , I remember how some societies, like the
American, turns real people into heroes or anti heroes as a form of relief or
even revenge of situations considered unfair. So, we knew the saga of Bonnie
& Clyde and John Dillinger who came to be regarded as a kind of Robin Hood,
which never crossed his mind.
I
think what strengthens a society are examples of life respected by character ,
actions based on values that we all know so well . If this leads us to the
need to live according to super heroes I do not know.
What
I think is that we should stop projecting on these "exo beings"
deviations of human behavior patterns and replace them in their original
places, as rapporteurs of history, even if mythical, and bring them back to the
source of leisure, fun and playful sense of the culture ,making the art his
rite.
